Hey there!

Thank you for the awesome guide. I have a laser cutter, 3d printed and screens and thought this was a perfect project!

I have tons of acrylic but no transparent black? I have that transparent white acrylic which is used to diffuse light for signage do you think that will work? I was not sure what you meant by 50% grey acrylic?

Also your nodemcu model. I have about 6 different esp8266 and none of them fit the little holder. Is there a specific model?

The ones I have that fit width wise don't fit because they have a reset button. Do you have any links to the right one?

thanks heaps!

Hi,

by 50% I mean it will let 50% of the light through and looks kind of back-ish. The diffuser needs to be as thin as possible - otherwise you will have light "bleeding" from one pixel to the next (paper works ok). I believe Adafruit sells some special acrylic that already does the diffusion part for you (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4594).

Node MCU was from AliExpress - but that was some time ago. Maybe they moved to different foot-prints. This looks like the one I have but don't call me on it (https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32842285206.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.65344fc3heqoK2&algo_pvid=8bf1028b-170f-4815-9e65-7f34b4eedb50&algo_expid=8bf1028b-170f-4815-9e65-7f34b4eedb50-8&btsid=0b0a187b16181589928852043ec3bf&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_)
