Hi, by 50% I mean it will let 50% of the light through and looks kind of back-ish. The diffuser needs to be as thin as possible - otherwise you will have light "bleeding" from one pixel to the next (paper works ok). I believe Adafruit sells some special acrylic that already does the diffusion part for you (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4594). Node MCU was from AliExpress - but that was some time ago. Maybe they moved to different foot-prints. This looks like the one I have but don't call me on it (https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32842285206.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.65344fc3heqoK2&algo_pvid=8bf1028b-170f-4815-9e65-7f34b4eedb50&algo_expid=8bf1028b-170f-4815-9e65-7f34b4eedb50-8&btsid=0b0a187b16181589928852043ec3bf&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_) |
Hey mate! Thanks for the response!
I got some 50% black acrylic and it’s just way too dark. Everything is mostly black. In that gif on the build site it has a pure white backdrop. I will try some white diffuser.
Also I can’t get the case shut lol the wires take up too much space to be able to fit it within the case.
Might have to cut and solder the wires to the board.

Hey there!
Thank you for the awesome guide. I have a laser cutter, 3d printed and screens and thought this was a perfect project!
I have tons of acrylic but no transparent black? I have that transparent white acrylic which is used to diffuse light for signage do you think that will work? I was not sure what you meant by 50% grey acrylic?
Also your nodemcu model. I have about 6 different esp8266 and none of them fit the little holder. Is there a specific model?
The ones I have that fit width wise don't fit because they have a reset button. Do you have any links to the right one?
thanks heaps!
