Suggestions for "pip editable install" with Poetry in play

I thought I could just symlink my "manim" package dir in my virtual env to my forked local manim repo. That worked for a while, but it broke eventually. I can give more detail but the error was:

TypeError: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'color'

...which goes away and all works as normal if I replace my manim package dir with the actual dir that pip wrote (i.e. when I undo my symlink hack)

I can just edit my virtualenv directly ....it's already under git control due similar past problems.

But is there hope to do the old fashioned pip install -e .? Is there a fairly painless workflow that is equivalent?
