ODIM-5 with a GTS header

Environment and Climate Change Canada added a GTS header to their ODIM_h5 data.

pyart.aux_io.read_odim_h5, can not read these new files.

Header example:
SDCN01 CWAO 121518
ODIM_H5 CASMB

When header is removed file reads with no issues. Can pyart.aux_io.read_odim_h5 be updated to handle the new header?

Hi @jlpippitt, we can take a look. In the meantime are you able to read the file with xradar? (we plan on moving to xradar for our readers down the road). Here is an example of using xradar and pyart

import pyart
import xradar as xd

tree = xd.io.open_odim_datatree(filename)

# Give the tree Py-ART radar methods
radar = tree.pyart.to_radar()

Thank you for the reply @zssherman. Same error occurs with xradar, originates from the h5py file read.

OSError: Unable to synchronously open file (file signature not found)

I'm wondering if you might have to open an issue for h5py?

This kind of header is violating HDF standard, AFAICT. Is there any documentation on this GTS header? It seems weird to have to remove this header to properly open the file.
