I'm looking to pick a hosting provider before cyber week discounts end and I have a couple of questions:

How much RAM and cores are recommended for a 5Mb/s stream to 50 viewers?
How much RAM and cores would are recommended for a 5Mb/s stream to 100 viewers?

Would it be possible to use OME with a CDN like belugacdn?

I'd say at least four cores and 16gb ram for both scenarios, with more cores being better if you can

You can use a CDN with llhls but for a small stream it's probably not worth it imo

I have one more question. If I pick a VPS located in the US, would it stream to to both US and European viewers fine, or would a second VPS in europe be necessary?

In my experience, east coast works fine for viewers around the world

I strongly have to disagree. This will result in terrible service quality for many users except when using HLS. If you want a reliable service for many concurrent users, you will not get around at the very last having a couple of servers in each geographic region.

My experience is somewhere between the two extremes. Overall I have found that the higher the bitrate, the harder time a stream has traversing oceans. In a highly un-scientific test between sources/viewers Toronto and an OME server in Australia, WebRTC streams over 3 or 4Mbps fell apart pretty quickly. So it really depends on your use case. As basisbit suggested, maybe you could use HLS via a Geo-IP lookup in tandem with the control server functionality of OME, to provide HLS playback for viewers in X or Y regions, but WebRTC to anybody in the Americas.
