In this project, I aim to design and construct an Electroencephalogram (EEG) system, employing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques to filter and analyze raw EEG data, extracting information about brain activity. This project will significantly enhance my expertise in digital signal processing by applying it in a real-world context. Furthermore, it will allow me to improve my understanding and competence with machine learning as I develop classification models to distinguish brain signals, states, and conditions. Beyond signal processing, this project offers an opportunity to explore the connection between neuron activity and electromagnetic fields, giving me the opportunity to play around with abstract methods for signal acquisition while addressing challenges like electromagnetic interference. Lastly, this project will give me more experience with the design process, starting from scratch as I research and implement best practices for filtering brain waves, electrode placement, and data processing, making it a holistic learning experience in both theory and practical application.
Overall, this project gives me hands-on experience in subjects I am very passionate and excited about and allows me to gain a better and more abstract understanding of concepts being learned in class. As well as simply becoming a better ECE engineer.
