It seems that rock formations never grow smaller when stone is gathered from them in v5.x.x, although I remember that in previous releases, rock would be gradually cut down like forest, similar to the Warcraft II alpha. Is this intended? Or maybe it just goes on too slow now to be noticeable?

It is just too slow now to probably be noticeable, as each rock tile contains 10000 stone. The idea was to make rocks remain as barriers even if a lot of stone is gathered from them, while not making it completely impossible to destroy them.
