SpiNNaker Package 103

This file contains instructions for installation of the tools on Ubuntu. This
has been tested on Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit but should be the same for 32-bit
machines.
Installation
************
To install the Spinnaker Package on Ubuntu (assuming you have already
extracted the tar.gz file):
1) Install the Required Dependencies
2) Decide if you would like to install any of the Graphics Dependencies or
Development Dependencies, and if so, install them
3) Install the Spinnaker Package
Required Dependencies
*********************
- Python 2.7
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python27
- numpy
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-numpy
- setuptools
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-setuptools
- PyNN 0.7
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-pynn
- Graphviz
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install graphviz
Graphics Dependencies
*********************
If you wish to use matplotlib and/or scipy (e.g. pylab), you will need to
install the following:
- matplotlib
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-matplotlib
If you wish to enable the visualiser (i.e. set enabled = True in the
[Visualiser] section of the .pacman.cfg file), you will need to install the
following (found in the Graphics-Visualiser folder):
- PyGTK
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-gtk2
- PyCha
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install python-pycha
Development Dependencies
************************
The following dependencies are required if you are planning on compiling any
new c code to run on SpiNNaker:
- 32-bit libc (if you are using a 64-bit system):
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install libc6-i386
- CodeSourcery GCC ARM EABI Compiler
* Download https://spinnaker.cs.man.ac.uk/tiki-download_wiki_attachment.php?attId=34&page=SpiNNaker%20Workshop%20August%202013&download=y
* Extract the downloaded archive
* Add the "bin" directory within the installed location to the PATH
enviroment variable in .profile in your home directory e.g. append the
following:
export PATH=$PATH:<install-location>/bin
where <install-location> is the place where you extracted the file.
- Perl and Perl TK
* From a terminal, run
sudo apt-get install perl perl-tk libterm-readline-gnu-perl
Installing SpiNNaker Package
****************************
* From the command line where the package is extracted, run
sudo python setup-pyNN.py install
python setup.py develop --user
