Even after turning smoothing down all the way to zero years, the same message "No results for this particular point: try again without smoothing" is displayed again. But if I have already turned down smoothing all the way down to zero, then the "try again without smoothing" message ought not to be displayed again.

Ben, I am not sure if your question was directed at me, or at others. The full context (from the user point of view) of the situation that I described, was in my message on Slack on Dec 29, when I reported the problem:
