Disc Read Error, 2.10U

Is there only support for 2.10U DVD Player if there's an HDD inserted? After burning 5 discs and being met with "disc read error," I decided to read the history and saw that during testing the 2.10U DVD Players would only boot with an HDD inserted? Is there another way to get FreeDVDBoot to work on my console without having to buy the HDD adapter back piece and an HDD?

I am using the same:
Phat PS2
Console: SCPH-30001 R
DVD Player: 2.10U

• Made a new payload using files VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO as found under Filesystems -> 2.10-2.13.

• Patched the iso with FDVDB burned to DVD+R

-Tried to run via ESR or via Brower -> DVD player. ESR booted to some colors then black screen. DVD player just reverted to opening up OPL.
