Non-english keyboard layout - cannot enter brackets, braces and other special chars

Im using a german keyboard layout with KDB Studio and I am not able to enter any of the following special chars into the text editor component: [ ] \ { }
They all require the "Option" key to be pressed, together with a number (5 6 7 8 9).

Right now Im resorting to copy pasting those from another IDE or other code pieces but its not a very elegant solution.
