DCA Layer doesn't work with FX mix #1

When I use DCA layer and select FX mix, DCA still controls main instead of FX mix. MAIN lock feature on faders is disabled. Selecting a DCA group reveals sends for that group to selected FX.

RML16AI Firmware v13731
CS18AI Firmware v13840

When not in DCA masters mode, selecting fx mix brings FX mix to faders and controls it.

In DCA masters mode any other mix, except FX works as expected.

If I select DCA masters, then select FX mix, i will control DCA masters on the main. If I call DCA group channels from that state, channel faders controls FX mix, as expected.

While Uc control works as expected, CS18AI has that bug.

So, it seems like it's a CS18AI issue.

My name is Michael, I am one of the QA Analysts (Live Sound Products) for PreSonus.

DCA's cannot control send levels for channels assigned to the DCA for any Bus. DCA's always only control Main Layer sends.

This is by design. If this was expected functionality, it would be specifically pointed out as an available feature inside the User Manuals.

Also, could you clarify what you mean by, 'Main Lock Feature broken.?'

Hello, Michael! Nice to meet you.

Well, I'm sure that I've used this workflow with UC Surface and even on CS18ai with mix busses. I will check it this friday and fire the more detailed video with the result.

Did I actualy say a term "Broken" related to Main Lock Feature? I've mentioned it was disabled. Here https://youtu.be/u_Ov3uWOn8g?t=89 it is explained: if you press and hold "Main mix button" you can lock faders to the main mix and use encoders as send controls for seleted mix bus.

Take a look at this video tutorial https://youtu.be/el-JXg-xXu8?t=87. It is clearly shown and told that: "while in a group, you can freely navigate between mixes. This makes it easy to adjust your channels for your main mix, as well as monitor mixes". Don't know what you are really mean that by design it is not. It is. Not completely sure about DCA group masters, but seems like it works this way too. As I said, i will check it this friday

By the way, I saw that AI line has been discontinued. So what the support will look like? Can we expect some updates or bugfixes?

DCA master groups also works almost as I expect it to work: It controls all the mixes, except FX mixes. Here's the video:

Hi Roman,

You are correct. I apologize for mis-information. Didn't have this feature when I was first testing them. 😏

This DCA behavior was brought over to the Series 3 mixers as well. Both platforms show the same behavior. DCA's do not control Send levels inside FX Mix bus.

This may be expected, however. I will need to speak with the Developers to see if this is intended. Otherwise, we can log as a bug.

Until I can confirm what is expected, I will get back to you when I receive an answer.

That's nice that we have understood each other.

My point on this feature is that having the possibility to control all the mixes the same way is absolutely great! UC control already does it that way. You can use DCA on FX too there. Why have a limit on a physical surface? What makes me think about it like a bug, is that indication is confusing: When I control the mix, I see that mix is selected above scribble strip and watch the layer modifier on the right. When, say, mix 3 and DCA group masters are selected I expect surface to control that mix with DCA. Selecting FX mixes makes the surface behave in a different way. This is very confusing behavior. You should either disable mix select buttons when in DCA masters, or make the surface control the FX mix the same way as other mix buses
