I have installed Helyx via the instructions provided choosing the option to install the GUI and Kernal provided. I get the message about there being no executable path. However when I go to Edit/Preferences I don't know where to direct the path. I have seen it is recommended that it should be the /opt folder. But I do not have any files in /opt.

Fairly new to Ubuntu so if you need any more information to help then just ask as I am new to forums.

Hi,

when you select the GUI+Kernel option first the HELYX-OS GUI is installed then, before installing the OpenFOAM kernel, you are asked which linux distribution you are running.
Currently only one option is shown, which is "Ubuntu (14.04 or later)".
If you are NOT running Ubuntu 14.04 or later you should select the "Other)" option and install OpenFOAM manually following the instructions you can find on the openfoam.org website.
If instead you are running Ubuntu 14.04 (or a higher version) you can select the "Ubuntu (14.04 or later) )" option and the installer will install openfoam 240 under the "/opt" folder.
In the Edit/Preferences dialog you should point to that folder (i.e. /opt/openfoam240).

So:

  1. Which ubuntu version are you running?
  2. Did you choose the "Ubuntu (14.04 or later)" option while installing?
  3. Did you got some errors while running 2)? If so, could you post those errors here?

P.S.
Keep in mind that HELYX-OS v2.3.1 in meant to work with the 240 version of OpenFOAM.
Using a most recent kernel is not guaranteed to work.
In the following weeks a new version of HELYX-OS will come out, supporting the latest OpenFOAM version (i.e. 4.0)

I am running Ubuntu 16.04.1

And I did not encounter any errors except notes about the repository (website)is not signed.

When asked where I want to install it I went with what was recommended in the guide and put it in my home folder.

That is where HELYX-OS will be installed.
The kernel should have been installed under the "/opt" folder.
Keep in mind that the kernel is installed following the commands described on the openfoam.org website, here is the reference: http://openfoam.org/download/2-4-0-ubuntu/.
If your "/opt" folder is empty, try re-install the kernel following the reference up here.

You can install them separately (i.e. use the installer to install the GUI, and follow the openfoam.org instructions to install the kernel) or together (using the installer, but only if you have Ubuntu 14.04 or higher).

I have found that when trying to install the Kernal again using the link you gave me, it says it is "unable to locate package openfoam240"

Is this an issue that may explain why the Helyx installer is not installing the OpenFOAM correctly?

Should I take this up with OpenFOAM support?

Have you successfully performed point 1) of the installation section where you add the openfoam repository?
If so, and still does not work, you should rely on the OpenFOAM support.

Yes, It is points 3) and 4) that I am having an issue with.

Hi,
have you setup the ParaView Executable under "Edit>Preferences"?

Hello, could someone help me please:

I installed OpenFoam 7, and then the Helyx-OS v.2.4.0 (GUI only), but it seemed like there was different dictionaries format or something: when I try to run the case OF gives error:

-> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
[2] Solution convergence criteria specified in PIMPLE.residualControl must be given as single values. Corrector loop convergence criteria, if appropriate, are specified as dictionaries in PIMPLE.ResidualControl.

I read that Helyx-OS is designed for OpenFoam 4.x, so I installed OF 4.x as well in home folder using these instructions
It compiled without errors (icoFoam -help gives OpenFOAM-4.x )
But when I set the OF 4.x path (/home/anton/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-4.x) in [Edit]->[Preferences] in Helyx-OS, it gives

mpirun was unable to find the specified executable file, and therefore
did not launch the job. This error was first reported for process
rank 0; it may have occurred for other processes as well.

I also tried to install HELYX-OS again, in the folder where it was already installed, but with option
"GUI and Kernel"
The installation finishes almost instantly without any errors, but also without installing the kernel.

So my question is:
Is Helyx-OS working with OpenFoam 7? If so, then what am I doing wrong with setting up the case?
If not, what should I do to run the case?

My system is ubuntu 18.04 running on WSL

Hello, can you help me for this problem;

I installed OpenFOAM v4.1 and HELYX-OS .But I encountered "HELYX-OS Core cannot be launched because: 1) HELYX-OS Core is not installed on your system 2) The path to the executable does not exists. 3) The path to the executable is broken Please enter HELYX-OS Core executable path under: Edit > Preferences."

How can I solve this problem?

Not: My system is last version of Ubuntu.

Hi,
as the message suggests, have you "entered the HELYX-OS Core executable path under: Edit > Preferences."
?
