The neo-Riemannian theory of music is centered around a few abstract musical objects, namely: triads, their transformations, and the tonnetz. Triads are chords composed of three notes, chord factors, that are related in a particular manner. In-line with the composition and name the distance, or interval, between both the root and third and the third and fifth chord factors must be thirds.
