I see that the Debian package is way out of date compared to the master code?
I'd be nice to have it but I suggest to either keep package update or drop it altogether and update installation instructions, so people will only use installation from source.

I was actually looking for someone to maintain the debian package, but did not find anybody yet. I might just drop that option and my plan during this week is to create a python package, which would make it easier to install on Mac and Linux.
I don't want to over-promise because of the limited time I have - but why not, I can give it a go & maintain it.
I will either fork or you can give me write access - I'd update your debian branch only.
Thanks Thomas. I have mostly created a python package, but it lacks the ability to set up bash completion, which is possible with the Debian package IIRC. I guess you can fork the repository, and/or I could give you access to the launchpad so you can push there directly (which is what is eats up my time actually).
Just noting that after some work that I have done, this commit (4cb0c04) should be reverted for the debian branch.
