The NBD stuff was probably an attempt to allow for pulling from SCSI/SAN style connectors?
Not very useful, i suppose, if the OS itself has no means to “access” things, but I think the intent was more toward making also a block level access over a piped filesystem share for fog-too

As discussed in the fourms I don't think we actually need it in the FOS kernels.
