FRR already has pthreads in both zebra and bgpd at this time. There clearly is room for more pthreading to be done. Just at this moment no-one is working on it that I am aware of. I am also not aware of anyone planning on working on adding more pthreads to either at this point in time. The FRR team has had discussions about how we would go about this but at this point this is where we are. |

It looks like Bird ver 3.0 will be Multithreaded and can use multiple CPU cores.
We're currently using FRR, but it gets unresponsive when updating BGP local-prefs / filters and the RPKI features seems to constantly complain about starving a thread.
The Zebra process usually makes one core run at 100% and the BGPD process makes another core run at 100%.... but the server has 8 cores and it keeps only 2 cores busy, sometimes for 4 or 5 minutes.
Are there plans to make FRR use more CPU cores?
