This has been discussed in a question on Stack Exchange from 2013, with a legacy solution from the same year:

I posted a new solution that uses highlight-parentheses together with rainbow-delimiters, but my solution isn't perfect. It might be nice if rainbow-delimiters supported this natively, removing the need for such (imperfect) hacks.
