Pinch to zoom should be smooth

Pinch to zoom lags behind approximately half a second when the gesture hasn't been used immediately beforehand. This can be disorienting for the user.

Need a clearer description of what's wrong. Do you mean if you pinch to zoom, release and then do it again, there's a delay? That's because when you release, it renders the page again. We could teach it to cancel rendering when zooming again.

No, that hasn't been as noticeable. I'm referring to how the first pinch to zoom gesture isn't immediately reflected in the document, but is instead delayed.

After that, while continuing to keep both fingers on the screen, adjusting the pinch will pretty much immediately change the zoom level, but this doesn't happen at the beginning. Hope that makes sense!

Interesting. I'm experiencing this on a non-Pixel device, is this out of scope or would you like hardware info and a logcat to diagnose?
