Real world to virtual world of computer and and otherway round

To make our data from on computer network we will prefer technology which is Internet ready using Etherct technology / protocol.

Hardware Requirements:

  1. Encoder with EtherCAT Interface: It should have an EtherCAT port or interface.
  2. EtherCAT slave hardware to connect your encoder to the EtherCAT network (EtherCAT terminals or modules).
  3. EtherCAT Master: It serves as the communication controller and coordinator for all EtherCAT devices on the network. Use either dedicated EtherCAT master cards (Beckhoff or others) or EtherCAT-capable industrial PCs.
  4. Industrial Ethernet Switch: To connect your EtherCAT devices, including the encoder and EtherCAT master
  5. Ethernet cables to connect the all devices.

A possible List of hardware.

Software Requirements:

  1. EtherCAT Configuration Software: To set up and configure the EtherCAT network, like TwinCAT / EtherCAT Workbench / other EtherCAT master software suites
  2. PLC Programming Software: If require.
  3. Data acquisition software to capture and save data from the encoder to a file on your laptop.

Steps to Get Data from Encoder to Laptop:

  1. Connect the encoder to the EtherCAT network via the EtherCAT switch. Ensure that all Ethernet cables are securely connected.
  2. Install the EtherCAT master / configuration software and any necessary PLC programming software on your laptop.
  3. Using the EtherCAT configuration software, configure the EtherCAT network, like network topology, discovering devices, assigning addresses to devices, and setting up communication parameters. Refer user manuals and documentation of encoder and EtherCAT master.
  4. If your encoder sends data continuously or periodically, configure the data acquisition software to receive and record this data. Ensure that the data format is compatible with the software you're using to capture and save the data.
  5. In case you need to control data or data processing, write the necessary control logic using the PLC programming software. This logic will dictate how data from the encoder is processed.
  6. Once the above things are done successfully, then you can monitor and collect data from the encoder using the configuration software. Depending on your application, you can log this data to a file on your laptop. This may involve setting triggers, specifying recording intervals, or other relevant parameters.
  7. Use software tools or scripts to store data received, into a file. You may need to create custom data logging routines.
