Goal

The current status bar on the main page could do with an upgrade. Currently, it's not the most eye-catching, and it would be nice if it conveyed information in a more interesting and/or interactive way. This may go hand in hand with #38, or could be expanded to have a focus on highlighting upcoming workshops, events, or just general announcements. This isn't a very well formulated issue, because I think it could do with some brainstorming to determine a better way to call attention and include more information in the banner.
