As a user,
I want sites using the IATI design system to appear consistent when swapping quickly between them
so that I can not be distracted by page content shifting ~20px or so to the left.

At the moment, if you navigate between sites using the design system, and one doesn't need vertical scrolls but one does, all the common content shifts to the right on the page without the scrollbars, which is distracting/annoying when navigating quickly between, e.g., the Validator and the Validator Docs site.

If we forced vertical scroll bars to always appear, even when not needed, the header / footer content would appear in a consistent place across all sites.

hi @tillywoodfield , good question, apologies, I should've included more details initially.

Linux - Chrome (Version 132.0.6834.83 (Official Build) (64-bit)):

  • it happens with the links at the very top (the links on the white background), but not the content where the titles are with the green/grey background

Linux - Brave (Version 1.73.104 Chromium: 131.0.6778.204 (Official Build) (64-bit):

  • it happens with all content in the header (the links and titles)

Windows - Edge (Version 131.0.2903.146 (Official Build) (64-bit):

  • it happens with all content in the header
