What are you trying to do, and what do you expect to happen?

When trying to use an external app to edit textures, Blockbench on MacOS does not seem to properly open .app files to use as an editor.
image
I right click my texture and choose 'Edit Externally'. I am presented with the 'Select an image editor' dialog box. I choose the option to 'Select a file' instead of using GIMP. When I choose to select a file, I would expect that the selected texture would open in the program I specify so that I may edit it. In my case, I would like to use Aseprite, but I have noticed the behavior seems to occur no matter which Mac app I choose to try to edit the texture with. I have tried a few different apps like Preview or Chrome, all with the same result.

What happens instead?

I am presented with the following error dialogue and cannot proceed:

It reads:
Title: File Not Found
Message: Blockbench could not find the requested file. Make sure it is saved locally and not in a cloud. /Applications/Aseprite.app
