Implement the LCOE functionalities already developed in the nexus_tool to the Jordan case study.

The main technologies would be electricity from the grid, diesel gen-sets, diesel pumps, solar PV and small scale wind power.

Notes:

  • Account for share of farms using Diesel and Electricity (the majority uses electricity)

Table 1. Percentage of the driving force of the irrigation network pump [1]

Energy source for the irrigation network Percentage (%)
HV network 69.9
Standalone generator 3.2
By connecting with the source of the driving force of the well pump 1.2
Gasoline / diesel 25.7

Table 20. Electricity Tariff in Jordan [2].

Category Tariff
Flat Rate Tariff for Agriculture (Fils/kWh) 60
Agriculture (Fils/kWh) three-part tariff *
-- Peak Load (JD/kW/ Month) 3.79
-- Day Energy (Fils/kWh) 59
-- Night Energy (Fils/kWh) 49
Flat Rate Tariff for Water Pumping (Fils/kWh) 94

* The three-part tariff will apply compulsory on agricultural consumers who are connected to the network from 14/3/2008, and Maximum load exceeding 100 MVA.

  • Account for a power factor of the agriculture loads, thus they can be compared against the 100 MVA limit and choose the right tariff.
  • Use the cost of producing energy (the country one). In 2014, it was 0.189 JOD/kWh approximately [3]. Or use the cost of electricity and explore taking-out subsidies and see how on-site renewables compete.
  • If currently uses Diesel, add a cost for connecting to the grid and the cost of transporting Diesel
  • Account for feed-in tariffs for renewables? Around a fixed rate of 0.05-.08 JOD/kWh calculated for a 20 years project [3]. This could also account for the on-farm available land to install PV.
