@samuk190 I am not an expert but you are correct that the background color can be set by the Dockbarx theme. A problem I am having is that in previous versions the transparency / opacity of the plugin used to be configurable but now seems "solid only". That could possibly be what you are seeing as well, if the theme has the background set to transparent then it would blend with the panel better.
@M7S or maybe @xuzhen may be able to comment on if the newer version of xfce4-dockbarx-plugin supports transparency or not.
Here is a link to a sample theme that previously used to support transparency (note the 80% for the "window list background" color) but currently only shows completely opaque:
@rik-shaw You could set the transparency value with the soild color. Press the "+" button in the custom colors, use the slide bar on the bottom. If you want set a accurate transparency value, right click on the slider
