Change LICENSE to ~~LGPL~~ EDIT: GPL2+ #4
Comments
@hmacdope you can't do this afaik - openbabel is gpl-2.0 licensed (actually you should check if it's 2+ because otherwise MDA & openbabel aren't compatible) and MDA is currently gpl-3 (although you could get away with it if it was just MDA because relicensing should happen). TLDR; openbabel is GPL and that's the main thing you're linking to here. |
MDAnalysis is now LGPLv2.1+ for code and currently LGPLv3+ for code, see https://www.mdanalysis.org/2024/11/22/release-2.8.0/#license-change-to-lgpl |
Thanks @orbeckst. This means the converter under a LGPLv2.1+ license will therefore be compatible with both MDAnalysis and OpenBabel's GPL-2.0 right? |
@lunamorrow because openbabel is GPL you have to package this converter under GPL, regardless of whether or not MDAnalysis is LGPL. Because of the current status of MDAnalysis, you would have to make it GPLv3+. |
Thank you for the clarification @IAlibay, I will move the licensing over to GPLv3+ now |
License has now been updated to GPLv3 |
