Feature Request: Sort by Month/Day/Year etc.

I'd love an option for users to sort items based on multiple options. At the moment, only tags and the search function can be used to sort items. I imagine it would be quite easy to implement a date based sorting system. So, in the sidebar there would be a list of years, or a dropdown with months etc. and users could show all items from March 2011, for instance.

This, combined with the ability to sort by mutiple tags, would make the frontend a very powerful archive tool.
