I wanted to play as a scientist, however once readying up and the game starting. It instead shows me a message "You have failed to qualify for any job you desired.". the scientist slots were still 3/5.

i believe this is intended, to allow for some late joins, so that all the jobs don't instantly fill up.

Well that shouldn't be the case. You're just instantly going to latejoin into it anyway and it makes you game the system by just setting one job to high and everything else off, sacrificing the utility of the job priority system. In fact, lots of people do exactly that, even unintentionally.

It's stupid, jobs should fill to 100% roundstart if there are people for it. Chemists do it, why not the others? Imagine you get antag. Okay, game says "this guy must get into a job no matter what" (yes this is how it works or at least worked if it's been changed), you only have scientist set to high. Okay, scientist is at 3/5, game says "no can do" and boots you to fucking cargo technician for some ungodly reason (totally not from personal experience) and now you get to play a round as role you've never done before and don't want to do in the first place! (this is with return to lobby enabled)

A great system all around. Clearly.

Sadly there is no perfect solution to this, i end up doing just because i have different characters for every single role i play BUT it does work to serve to distribute players more, instead of getting 8 seccies round start you could get up getting a few thrown into other jobs that they have set, and allows for late joins to be more of option instead of it turning into "oh this entire role is filled along with all the others" and ending up as a assistant or other throwaway job.
And if people want to game so well, means that they want that role.

Chemist is also a low number role, 2 max, as to my knowledge, janitors, cooks and lawyers also do the same thing, maybe even

you should also NEVER get booted to another role unless you want to, that is a problem i agree.

A great system all around. Clearly.

it might not be perfect but i have yet to see one that is better, and doesn't leave it up to pure luck.
