  • there are tons of weather stations with decent spatial and temporal coverage
  • they are free and readily available online
  • most are not at very high altitude
  • Eric started a spreadsheet with metadata on available stations
  • anyone: let's download and distribute these datasets!

NOAA has a great API to access the data. Note that I have looked at their Legacy API, but it doesn't work. If anyone else have a better luck, please let us know.
