This issue also affects the app: BiologicalRecordsCentre/iRecord#1778

Was this a conscious decision to disallow synonyms? The problem is really with the UKSI (at least for plants -- in places synonyms are only marked at one level at not another), but until that is fixed it will continue leading to data entry errors). On the other hand, allowing all synonyms across all taxa will massively increase the size of the dictionary and some dropdowns I imagine).
