If one goes to create a new record and then clicks on species, the Select Species page comes up. In the corner of each image is an information button. Now and again when I click on the image, I get the information page for the butterfly, when I just want to record it, probably because I have just tapped imprecisely. Sometimes a “Record this species?” prompt then appears (this sometimes happens, and sometimes not: I am not sure the precise kind of tap or circumstances that makes it happen). If one clicks “yes”, the app asks if you if you want to create a new record for that species. But how likely is it that one would want to do that? I have fixed my location, entered the location name, and then I go to click the species. Even if I maybe HAVE then asked for more information to check the species identity, if I am then asked if I want to record it and click “yes", isn’t it overwhelmingly likely that I want to then complete the record I have half completed? I can’t really imagine under what circumstances I would NOT want to do this, to be honest.
This can be intensely annoying in the field. Sometimes I have scrolled all the way down to find an obscure species, click on the image, get this prompt, and then have to completely re-do the record to record it, or go back to the record in progress, scroll down to find the image all over again, and re-click.
So my simple suggestion is this: If the app says “Do you want to record this species?” and there is a half-completed record, then assume that you want to record the species on that record.
