GTA V no longer allows loading DLLs since v1.68/3095 (possibly even earlier versions) and newer. Because of this, you can only use DLL injector apps like Stand Launcher, Extreme Injector, and others to inject GTA5.exe to load the modded DLL. This DLL can't be unloaded from GTA5.exe, even if you replace it with a backup file. The game will somehow use all your CPU resources, locking up your system, but the game won't crash. This is irreversible to my knowledge.

I tested this on the FG release (v1.68/3095) in two different environments, and both showed 100% CPU usage after injecting using Stand Launcher (PC) and Extreme Injector (Laptop).

My PC specs are:

  • AMD 5600X
  • AMD RX 6600
  • 8x2 DDR4-3200 MHz

My laptop (for testing purposes):

  • i5-8350U
  • UHD 620
  • 2x8 2133 MHz

For some reason, my PC completely froze and Windows locked up when I booted into single-player, so I couldn't grab a screenshot. Below is my laptop screenshot:

EDIT:

Now, before anyone says, "That's normal for GTA V because it's a CPU-bound game and you have a crappy system," no, it is not. My 5600X crashed while my laptop didn’t.

CPU-bound games like GTA V can push your CPU hard, but no game should ever hit 100% CPU and cripple the whole OS. Windows has safeguards to prevent one process from locking up the system completely. If it’s maxing out the CPU and freezing everything, something's wrong—and that’s exactly what’s happening here.

Here, I have a "normal" CPU usage of GTA V with 8GB 16GB RAM (Yes, I know) after a complete reinstall of the game, sigh.
