OPS

The German procedure classification (Operationen- und Prozedurenschlüssel - OPS) is the official classification for the encoding of operations, procedures and general medical measures. It is maintained by the DIMDI and the source material was provided under these licensing conditions.

It was created using versions ranging from year 2010 to 2020 resulting in about 41000 procedure codes. Codes were versionized over the course of these yearly versions leading to initially over 2600 deprecated codes in the vocabulary (i.e. not valid in the latest version, but valid in previous versions). The majority of the codes comes unmapped as Non-Standard in the initial release. Going forward the community welcomes input regarding mapping quality and urgently needed mappings based on frequency counts from German data sources.

Please note that not only the main codes are represented but also codes combined with modifiers (subclassification) that would indicate for example a location.

The release however contains processed partial mappings provided by Averbis and TriNetX and some additional mappings created on top of these, resulting in a little less than 9000 Non-Standard to Standard mapping relationships.

If you use this material in scientific publications, please cite according to these instructions and do not forget to mention OHDSI and TriNetX.

Sources

The material is downloaded in ClaML format from DIMDI and converted to csv files using a Python ClaML project, extracting main codes and modifier codes separately, preserving the hierarchy within the procedure catalog provided by the "SuperClass" association.

Please note: The creation is done using the machine-readable version of the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI). („Die Erstellung erfolgt unter Verwendung der maschinenlesbaren Fassung des Deutschen Instituts für Medizinische Dokumentation und Information (DIMDI).“)
