Since version 2023.4 the flower card no longer displays the sensor
I tried to modify card-tools ( thomasloven/lovelace-card-tools#73) but it doesn't work better

I really want to migrate away from card tools, as Thomas has stated that he does not want to maintain it anymore.
But I am unable to wrap my head around some of the things that is neede to get this to work.

Is this why the card doesn't show up as an option to choose when adding a card to a dashboard but manually setting the type to custom:flower-card works?

I had this issue just after upgrading HA to 2023.4, but after upgrading everything possible in HACS and a reboot, it's displaying the card properly.

You're right.
plant monitor no longer worked in version 2023.5.
I updated everything by hand (flower_card, plant monitor, openplantbook) and everything works again, the flower card too.

You still need card tools. Look at the link in the error message.
