Introduction

KEP makes significant upgrades to In-Game Trades, boosting their variety and restoring trade evolution features that are seen in Blue JP and Yellow. These can be divided into three distinct types: standard trades, regional form trades, and the trader NPC who evolves your trade-evolving Pokemon for you. This, overall, translates the original trading experience into single player.

Changes made to the core system are as follows;

  • Boosted EXP is removed
  • Obedience is nullified
  • Nicknames can be changed at the Name Rater
  • The 16 In-Game Trade Limit is removed
  • Evolution via an In-Game Trade is made possible
Being a new starter, Pikachu's eventual arrival to Gorochu or Alolan Raichu makes it KEP's representative for the evolution method, while Eevee is the evolution stone representative.

Trader NPC

A Trader NPC is featured in Cinnabar Lab's trade room to allow for evolving in-game trade evolutions without requiring another game. When doing this, the OT, ID, and statistical traits are preserved, making the NPC effectively a really snazzy evolution stone. This is done with the understanding that trading is an evolution method in and of itself, and thus should not be excluded from the game like it is in some ROM Hacks, nullifying it through level-based evolution. Cinnabar Lab was the chosen location for theming and to balance the extremely strong trade evolutions RBY has, chief among them Alakazam.

The following Pokemon evolve via trade, and thus require Cinnabar Island access to evolve:

Pokemon Evolution Notes
Graveler Golem
Kadabra Alakazam
Machoke Machamp
Haunter Gengar
Seadra Kingdra
Raichu Gorochu Reference to the mistranslated man in Cinnabar Lab
Primeape Annihilape

List of Standard In-Game Trades

Standard In-Game Trades are preserved, with iconic and quality ones being maintained. Trade evolutions are featured here as well to showcase the mechanic in-game, something that Blue JP and Yellow do well. Galarian Cross-Generation Evolutions are added to the S.S. Anne.

Regional Trades

KEP adds the Regional Traders from Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, expanding on the feature further. In these games, they are in most Pokemon Centres, which is replicated here. While some are version-exclusive, this has been delimited by adding Alolan Raticate to Viridian and Alolan Golem to Pewter.

Galarian and Paldean forms are added to the S. S. Anne, which returns after getting the Marsh Badge, making it much more useful later on. These trades are not currently repeatable, and due to the 251-Pokemon limit this hack currently has, only the evolved forms are available. The Hisuian forms can be obtained through Bill and his grandfather, though they are also available in a certain post-game location later!
