Route 2

As you enter Route 2 after meeting the caffeine-addicted old man, you'll see Viridian Forest on the horizon! Let's set off. Maybe you found another Potion on the way...

Pokemon Level Range Probability
Rattata 4 19.9%
Pidgey 3-4 35.2%
Coinpur 2-3 15.3%
Caterpie 2-3 10.2%
Weedle 2-3 14.9%

If you return here from Diglett's Cave later, if you caught an Abra, you can trade with a Game Boy-holding kid for a Mr. Mime! It's one of few Psychic-types to get the powerful Thunderbolt. It's also possible for you to get the HM for Flash, which will let you see some new items in Rock Tunnel...

Viridian Forest

Viridian Forest is filled choc-full of Bug-type Pokemon, and the Bug Catchers are here to catch them all! Let's go on a hunt of our own. As you reach the end, you'll see that the final Bug Catcher has a Pokemon you can't normally find in this area. The little scamp!

Pokemon Level Range Probability
Caterpie 4-5 29.7%
Weedle 4-5 25.0%
Kokana 4-5 14.1%
Pidgey 4 15.2%
Kakuna 7 5.1%
Metapod 7 5.1%
Kotora 3 4.3%
Pidgeotto 9 1.2%

Kokana? Well, it's a rather posh little lad, a Bowler Hat-wearing Weedle, if you will. It's a third "regional bug" that can evolve into a punchy, dapper, beetle Pokemon! It's a little rarer than the other ones, as it likes to gnaw on tree roots!

Anyway, Pewter City is within sight!

Pewter City

Pewter City, the grey city of grit. There's a lot to be found here, but it seems Brock's biggest fan isn't around today.

Pewter Museum of Science

If you look around the Pewter Museum of Science, you'll see a very interesting book featuring what seems to be ancient Pokemon...but it's probably a load of baloney. If you go upstairs, there's a strange man rambling near the Space Shuttle Columbia as well...hmm. He gives you something useful, though, so I guess he can have his rant.

With your brain fully inundated with science, let's head over to the local Gym, where you can earn your first proper Gym Badge!

Pewter Gym

Brock has brought a new Pokemon to his team: The extinct Pokemon Decilla! It seems to know some rare moves, too! He's not the easiest trainer to take down, so you can skip him, but if you return, he'll be even stronger!
