Supervisor room allows for general monitoring of the operations in both units and is intended as a place to give general advise for operators in both control rooms. Several features are available:
-
local copies of computer screens of both units
-
local copies of chart recorders of both units
-
video cameras for both units, turbine hall and other rooms
-
weather station with forecast
-
demand manager
-
unit interlock
This screen is available for supervisor rank or higher and allows to divide whole site demand between both units. New demand is available 300 seconds before it comes and changes can be made until 60 seconds are left. Supervisor should take into account several factors when chosing demands:
-
Does any unit needs repairs? If so a lower demand could help a lot, also maintenance event can be called
-
Are there humid conditions or high outside temperature? In that case U2 should have reduced demand
Unit interlock is available for senior supervisor rank or higher. It allows to power A bus of one unit from A bus of another one. In order to connect the units donor should be powering its A bus from the turbine (startup transformer will not provide enough power for both units) and receiving unit needs to have bus A unpowered. Only then both breakers can be closed. Interlocking can have several uses mostly when offsite power is disconnected:
- Unit Safety bus can be powered quicker (from A bus) without the need to wait for diesel genertor in case LPCI is needed
- Unit can be restarted to islanding mode in case offsite power disconnection caused turbine trip or SCRAM
Although the supervisor role is not strictly defined the main idea behind this rank is to monitor, coordinate and give advise to operators of both units. Supervisor shouldn't be stuck to the room, they should actively patrol the area, check for any problems in both units and the turbine hall.
