For celestial bodies located outside the SOI of the planet a telescope is orbiting, the celestial body will display the incorrect phase to the telescope when the celestial body is viewed through the telescope control menu.
In fact, the targeted celestial body will display the phase as if it was in the active vessel's position; the light source for the celestial body is coming from the wrong direction.
With stock KSP, this bug is not as noticeable. However, with Environmental Visual Enhancements, Distant Object Enhancement, and Planetshine, this is more noticeable to players that are trained in astronomy.
This was pointed out by a user on the KSP forums.
