The pre and post-tests require the knowledge of a programming language, which means that the students already knew the programming concepts. As the authors reported, it was not the best way to evaluate the proposal.
An alternative way to evaluate the proposal may be applying the game before the Python programming course for some students and observing their performance compared to the others. (SIGCSE Reviewer #5)
