Understanding Tahcoin Blockchain Integrity

Editing Blocks: What Happens?

  1. Breaking the Chain: If you edit a block, its hash changes. Since each block references the hash of its predecessor, all subsequent blocks will also become invalid.

  2. Detection by Other Rivers: The Tahcoin network consists of multiple rivers (computers) that maintain their own copies of the blockchain. If one river detects that its copy of a block does not match with others, it will identify that the blockchain has been tampered with.

  3. Consensus Mechanism: The Tahcoin blockchain employs a consensus mechanism (Proof-of-Work) to validate transactions and ensure that all rivers agree on the current state of the blockchain. If discrepancies are found due to edits or deletions:

    • The river that made the change will recognize that its version is inconsistent with others.
    • The network will reject the altered block and continue using the original, valid version.

Consequences of Tampering

When a block is edited or deleted:

  • Blockchain Integrity: The integrity of the entire blockchain is compromised. Other rivers will flag this as a broken chain.
  • Loss of Trust: Tampering can lead to loss of trust in the network, as users rely on the immutability and security of blockchain data.
  • Reversion to Valid State: The network will revert to a valid state based on consensus rules, effectively ignoring any tampered changes.
