For years now, I've been thinking that a UI option to show measure lines / bar lines to indicate when a new measure starts would be helpful especially for beginners (I'm not sure what the correct terminology here is but I mean the lines that group notes into measures, ie. 4 quarter notes (="red arrows") in 4/4 etc.)
I would compare this to how learning to play the piano from sheet music would be unnecessarily complicated without measure lines (just lost and lots of notes in a row, not divided into groups logically). I personally don't find this analogy that far fetched, to me the arrows in the game are essentially vertical notes you play with your feet (or keyboard).
I only recently found out that the support for measure lines is already built in the game, just too well hidden, IMHO.
A screen shot that shows what I mean:
In this screen shot I've made the following edits to metrics.ini in _fallback in the Themes directory (under [NoteField]):
ShowBeatBars=true (enables the feature)
BarMeasureAlpha=0.5 (default =1 but I think it looks better this way, not quite as strong)
Bar4thAlpha=0 (hide these, by default this and the following lines are enabled too but IMHO they don't help)
Bar8thAlpha=0 (hide these too)
Bar16thAlpha=0 (hide these too)
The point of this feature request / discussion is to make showing measure lines possible pretty easily from the game UI, without needing to edit text files. As far as I know, currently this is not possible.
PS. I personally would probably even consider showing measure lines by default, but I do realize that's probably not the majority's view. The option to do that would still be very nice though!
