Data source: https://chronicdata.cdc.gov/500-Cities-Places/PLACES-Local-Data-for-Better-Health-County-Data-20/swc5-untb/data Original data include Crude prevalence and Age adjusted prevalence. Our dataset also includes both. Do we need both? The tab for "ALL" (brfss_all.csv) includes all variables, including ones we aren't using. We only need to focus on the five variables mentioned above. The full datasets will be stored in CyVerse. All variables are % of population. |
Can add five new classes to se_data_classes.csv Parent class: UO:0000187 (percent) The range of 'is about' is entity, so we could use diseases (MONDO) here, even though the other percents are all about qualities. Therefore, I've used HPO classes Diabetes: HP:0000819 (diabetes mellitus) @alma - Can you please check if the HP classes I chose will work for your study? |
For cancer, add XREF to https://www.cdc.gov/places/measure-definitions/health-outcomes/index.html#cancer |
Obesity definitions: They also define obesity as "Respondents aged ≥18 years who have a body mass index (BMI) ≥30.0 kg/m² calculated from self-reported weight and height." So not sure if there is another definition that is more aligned with that rather than "Accumulation of substantial excess body fat." Since it is more specific than HPO, we should create a subclass. |
