Smartfin FW-3 is the third inderation of the smartfin project, with the major break switching to a new Tracker System On a Chip (T-SOM) based board as opposed to the previous E-Series board.
As part of this shift, much of the code was re-writen, but the core logic largely stayed the same. The GPS, IMU, and file system firmware were re-written for the T-SOM, while most of the other sensors, such as the Water, Temperature, and base system logic remained consistant with Smartfin FW-2.
First, read through our archeturual overview (see architechture.md and arch.puml).
Then, have a look at the overall program flow: fw_flow.puml
Now, you can decide what issue to focus on. Have a look at the issues or the list of work needed marked bellow. Once you decided on an issue, create a new branch off main and begin development from there.
Here is a list of some important tasks for future development
- Development of "Ride" task to manage data collection during surf ride. This can largely take the logic from Smartfin-fw2 intact, with minor changes to interact with the modified recorder class.
- Porting over manufacturing tests for Smartfin-fw2
- Porting over temperature callibration from Smartfin-fw2
- Development of firmware for Wet/Dry, and eventually Salinity sensor
