The title page resets the page counter. For example if you have an abstract after the title page, both have the page number i.

Resetting page counter after title page is default article document class behaviour; the old tktltiki class also does the same thing. Note that this behaviour is only observable in the end product due to pdf page numbers.

It seems that this would be rather straightforward to change. However, I do not know what would be the desired behaviour. Title page is page i? Title page is page 0? Do you have suggestions?

I would suggest the title page to be page i (i.e. the first page of the document). This would make the page numbering consistent in some PDF viewers that have overviews of the documents in which they display the page numbers from the PDF source.

I reset the counter after \maketitle with \setcounter{page}{2}.
