Keep multi-cursor selections when switching into insert mode

Hello!

Enjoying this extension a lot lately. But I have a minor issue with it during my workflow.

When I place multiple cursors I often want to select text with those cursors and then edit those selections. This seems to be impossible because selections are discarded when entering the insert mode. Also when I'm inside the insert mode a selection of text switches back to visual mode...

Q: Is it possible to keep the current multi-cursor selections when switching into insert mode? / How can I select text with multiple cursors inside insert mode?

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select some word or text
2. Place multiple cursors for matches (cmd+d / gb) → selections still intact for multiple cursors
3. Switch to insert mode using shift+i → selections are now gone
