In singleplayer puzzles designed with the Puzzlemaker, you're able to grab cubes from behind a metal grate but can't get them through, so you're essentially able to guide the cube along the grate, while walking along it.
This is a great underutilized mechanic which I've used in several of my chambers (example: p2_grate_guiding), though in co-op it does not work. In co-op, cubes do not collide with metal grates (or any surface) while holding them, so you're just able to grab it through the grate and immediately take it through, breaking the puzzle.
