When you fold your device to either use the right or left screen, as soon as the opposite screen turns off, the now "main" screen dims down significantly.
Observation:
Scenario 1: When you fold your device that the LEFT screen is the main screen, the LEFT screen will dim down as described above as soon as the right screen turns off. However if you use the brightness slider, you can turn up the brightness again and use the duo as you should.
Scenaro 2: When you fold your device that the RIGHT screen is the main screen, the RIGHT screen will dim down as described above as soon as the left screen turns off. HOWEVER even if you pull up the brightness slider, you can't turn up the brightness on the RIGHT screen as long as the left screen is being turned off.
Conclusion:
At the moment it is NOT possible to use the Surface Duo solely using the right display. If you want to use one hand mode, you have to use the left screen. Otherwise the right screen will dim down so far, that you won't be able to see things on the display.
