UX UI Design Process Overview
To keep us organized and efficient, we will be using a Kanban Board for the design team on Github to track issues as well as give and receive feedback on our work.
Below is a step-by-step guide to using the board as well as a process for giving the rest of the team a chance to give feedback on your designs before it is finalized.
If you have any other questions or need help navigating Github, please reach out any time!
-
Start by viewing open issues in the “To Do” column on the WDP design team project board. This list contains any open tasks that haven’t been started yet. (Be sure to check and make sure nobody is already assigned the task before you continue.)
-
To choose a task to work on, simply select any open issue from the list (they are not prioritized at this time) and assign it to yourself. This way, everyone can easily see what you’re working on and if there are any other open tasks that need to be done.
-
Once you’re ready to get started on the task, drag and drop the card into the “In Progress” column on the project board. This helps everyone see the status of each task or page.
-
If you get stuck during the process, feel free to post in the #design-gate Slack channel. This will allow your teammates to add comments, suggestions, or anything else you might need.
-
Once you’re finished with your work, please post it in the #design-gate channel on Slack for a final team review. (You can also create this as a poll if you’d like.) That way, we can all have a chance to review or provide feedback on our own time without having to schedule a meeting.
-
After the team reviews the design, return to the project board on Github and move your task from “In Progress” to “Needs Review”. This is where Mariana will do the final approval before submitting it for the development team.
- View the “To Do” list on the left side of the design project board:
- Click on any issue that doesn’t already have someone assigned to it. This will open the details on the right of your screen:
- Under “Assignees'', you’ll see a link that says “assign yourself”. Simply click that and Github will add you to the task. Great! Now everyone knows you’re working on this task and they can choose a different one from the list.
