Hey everyone,
Space recently overwent a complete rebuild from the ground up and now features a new interface and infrastructure which changes the way you access your Space apps. This change also effects existing and new users of WebCrate so I wanted to provide you a WebCrate specific update on what is changing.
What is changing
As you can read in the Deta Space Blog, Space just made a change that improves the security and reliability of your Space apps by simplifying the domains to a single subdomain. Going forward all apps, including WebCrate will be available under this domain structure:
alias-suffix.deta.space
. For WebCrate it will bewebcrate-suffix.deta.space
. Thesuffix
is a random string of letters and numbers which helps keep your WebCrate instance anonymous.Your existing WebCrate instances will continue working until February 13th, after which they will only be accessible through the new domains.
You can see both the old and new domains for any Space app by clicking the ... and then Settings from an app’s card on your Space’s Canvas.
For now the easiest way to access your WebCrate instance is through the new Space Canvas. You can launch the WebCrate app from there and also install and use all the other cool Space apps that the Deta Community has published on Deta Discovery.
Going forward
Space has been completely rebuild from the ground up with a new user interface and infrastructure that will serve as the foundation for the future of Deta and Space. This new Space is already live on deta.space and all your apps, including WebCrate have been migrated automatically.
You can expect many new features to come to Space and WebCrate over the next few months, including ways to use custom domains with your apps so you could assign your own domain to your WebCrate instance to access it.
Additionally there is now a Space Manual which contains explainers and guides all around Space itself which might be helpful in understanding how Space works and how you can access your apps and data going forward.
I hope this change doesn't cause to many inconveniences for you, I am sure over the long run this will pay off and it will serve as a good base for the future of Space and WebCrate!
