The Sphere of Cognizance can be used to research unknown spells or Relic items (Stone Tablets) and it can become an essential tool for identifying unknown spells. By fuelling the process with raw magic crystals and concentrating their mind on the Sphere, a wizard can learn clues regarding the very nature of the spell which was put under the Sphere, without casting it. Not only can the elemental affinity of the spell be revealed this way, but also the its purpose - be it a summoning incantation, or a protective aura around the caster.
There is also a slight chance to discover the spell's name. The Sphere can be an useful addition to a wizard's arsenal of magical tools - and a mysterious, fancy decoration to a library of spells.

The crafting recipe of the sphere
The Sphere can study two kind of things: unknown Spell Books (of the main Electroblob's Wizardry mod or any addon) or Relics (Stone Tablets of various sizes). For Spell Books, the Sphere can reveal information about the spell, like the element of the spell, the type of the spell etc. This can be useful when you are attempting to cast an unknown spell, as the hints given by the Sphere can help casting it correctly. There is also a small chance to instantly identify the spell. A spell can be researched as many times as you want, each time you'll receive a different result. Only unknown spells can be researched.
The GUI of the sphere
(1) Magic Crystal slot. Use regular Magic Crystals as fuel for the search
(2) Research item slot. This can be an unknown spell book or Stone Tablets
(3) Research progress bar. The research only progresses while the GUI is open.
(4) Research button. Pressing the button consumes a crystal and begins the research.
Only enabled if there is something to research and there are enough Magic Crystals available
(5) The text area of the research result. Usually a somewhat cryptic message about the spell's nature or the stone tablet.
An example of a researched spell. You can research a spell as many times as you want. This hint in the example means that the unknown spell book is a Healing element spell
