imagemin is the only reason i still have gulp though imagemin itself is unmaintained and while it works (sort of) it doesn't respect folder structures and no PRs are being accepted it seems .. the last version is from 2020 I think.

not sure what to do but i am removing imagemin and using image compression as needed, versus wasting more time on how to script something to do it when i dont need it that often

https://github.com/imagemin/imagemin updated a few months ago.... is this project active again?

(still not "worth" bringing Gulp back in my workflow for this, i think)
